Balancing Act

There are countless number off times that I've been out and thought, If only I had my camera with me.

I don't know about most of you but I either don't remember to bring it or I just don't because it's just too darn cumbersome.

Today I bit the bullet and bought a Nikon Coolpix S570, just something I can keep in my purse to have when I need to capture that unexpected moment. It's smaller than my iPhone!

I had very little expectations of it having any features that I've been practicing, the latest being setting the custom white balance.

Oh, me of little faith, I was wrong!

My itty bitty Nikon point and shoot does indeed have custom setting for white balance and ISO settings. Who knew?  Not clueless me apparently!

Thank goodness because I was dreading having to use the flash to take photos indoors of the day trip BFF Becky and I are taking on Saturday.  Our hubby's are taking us for our birthdays, fun-ness!

Here's an example of the white balance settings courtesy of my grandma's lamp:

white balance Auto
ISO 400

white balance incandescent
ISO 400

white balance manual custom
ISO 400

Perfect?  No, but it's easy to see what a difference it makes and it's super easy to set.

Looking forward to trying it out this weekend!

Bravely going where I've never gone before!

  3. great purchase you made! I bought a great P&S a few months ago and I'm finding that I use it sometimes more often than my DSLR. Gets into those tight spaces better.

  4. This is a great idea; I used to have a little point and shoot, but my toddler got a hold of it and dropped it with the lens extended and ruined it :( Might be time to think about getting another one to stash in my purse. Have a great weekend!

  5. Nice! Some p&s cameras really do give you control over your shots, which is awesome!! Glad you are liking yours! :)

  6. These are great shots! You will definitely be happy that you always have a camera with you. I don't know how many shots I missed, before I finally forced myself to make sure I always had one with me.

  7. Some of those little point and shoots are much better than people ever give them credit for! I had one years ago that I could use on full manual, I took that thing everywhere with me! Much easier than carrying around an SLR all the time. Now if I don't want to carry my SLR I usually slip one of my 35mm film cameras in my purse, although I secretly wish I had a phone with a camera.

  8. Very cool. I bought a cheap point and shoot to keep in my purse instead of lugging around the big camera. I wonder if mine has where I can set a custom white balance.
